Pros : Compact, Large Screen, Acquires Satellites Quickly
Cons : Poor Web Interface, Unreliable Performance, Difficult Menus
I had to return the first unit as it removed the maps instead of updating them once I connected through my computer to TomTom. The second unit updated the maps correctly (It took over 4 hours with DSL.) but stopped connecting to my bluetooth capable phone after only one day. I am returning this unit also and going to pick out a Garmin.

By James E. King (Rehoboth Beach, DE)
Over all this is a great unit. There are a couple of things I don't like.
1. It show streets that are not thru streets.
2. The window mount does not have enough stand off to use on friction dash mount.

By Kev (East Tennessee, USA)
Before I start to rate this product... I need to disclose that I am jaded at the lack of one CRUCIAL feature: I confirmed with TomTom support that in recent software updates, they have REMOVED the ability to turn the unit on automatically. In other words, when your car shuts off (and power is lost to the cigarette lighter plug), the GPS turns off. This is good. When you turn your car back on, it does nothing. You have to turn it on manually every time you drive. This might work for some people -- but not me. I still don't understand why TomTom would intentionally disable this
MAPS NOT UP TO DATE
I don't know if this is TomTom's fault or local city planners... either way, 2 or 3 intersections in Knoxville, TN (all which were modified over 3 years ago) show up as the old intersection on the TomTom. Yes, I downloaded my "newest map guaranteed" map as soon as I got it.
MENUS IMPOSSIBLE TO NAVIGATE
No, you're not supposed to navigate the menus while you're driving -- but isn't it safe to assume that you will? The menus on this TomTom are not laid out in a logical fashion. For instance... In order to cancel my current trip (just to "stop" during a navigation), it takes 5 clicks. You can customize a menu of (up to 6) items that are quickly accessible on the home screen -- however, none of the options given are really that practical. You have to choose from SPECIFIC quick-key features.
VOICE RECOGNITION
This feature is what sold me on this item. I thought "wow, what a cool feature!" I cannot speak clearly enough for it to work even once. It is an absolute waste of a feature. I assure you: You will not make this feature work in a reasonable way. It should prevent distractions... rather, it becomes a distraction when your GPS cannot understand what you're saying.
POIs WAY OUTDATED
Even with the most recent map update, I couldn't find businesses that I KNOW have existed for 10+ years. This may not be TomTom's fault... but Garmin has 'em... and I shouldn't have to go look them up on Google Maps and punch in the address.
SCREEN NOT RESPONSIVE -- DIRTY
I know touchscreens get fingerprints on them -- but this one was bad. My iPhone and Garmin (and a POS 17" I use) all get fingerprints -- but not nearly as bad as this. I had to wipe it down between uses -- and my hands weren't greasy or dirty... just normal finger stuff.
CHEAP MOUNT WITHOUT POWER
Garmin's mount has power to it -- so you can click it on and off without having to unplug things. This gives a bit more of a permanency. The TomTom hangs on a plastic square and requires a USB-size power cable manually connected to it every time. Battery life on this seems to be about 30 minutes (my Garmin can go HOURS).
BOTTOM LINE:
I was so excited to be finally getting away from Garmin. I have heard great things about TomTom and was so proud to make this purchase. I was severely disappointed. I will not even consider ever buying another until they fix the auto-power-on feature. Evern past that, my maps were just "not good enough" to even navigate. I truly had to Google Map a couple of places from the iPhone and punch them in manually... not acceptable. Lots of neat ideas, poorly executed.

I see some people have difficulty with the windshield mount. You put it on the windshield, then turn it, like screwing back on a bottle top to create the suction to the windshield. Same to get it off. Wish these had been around in my younger days when I always got lost wherever I went! Much better than our friends Garmin, imp, tho I don't know what model they had.

By Michael Rotunda
The TOM TOM GPS device has met every expectation I had. It worked right out of the box. The features were very easy to use and understand. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a GPS.
