"Great GPS, starts quickly, logical directions, easy to read!" 2009-10-27
By Eric N. George (Louisville, KY)
I bought this Garmin after having continuous problems with a cheaper Nextav GPS that caused nothing but frustration. I have very few complaints about my purchase and would recommend it to anyone. The touch screen is pretty responsive, although sometimes it takes a minute for the screen to catch up with everything you've selected....for example, you can type in the first three or four letters of a street, but it won't show it on the screen each time, then suddenly it all populates. small issue...

The main gripe I have about this unit is that I have been unable to get the Bluetooth connection to work properly. Maybe i'm doing something wrong here, but BT is supposed to be relatively simple and I haven't been pleased with this feature so far. Not that big a deal, but it was one of the selling points to me.

The maps looks great, the voice directions are natural-sounding and clear, and it always find a signal quickly. To me these are the most important features and I'm very pleased with my purchase decision.

"Horrible is all I can say!" 2009-10-26
By W. settle (Mountain House, CA)
I purchased the Garmin 265WT at a major warehouse and after getting it home I stood out in the middle of my driveway which has a clear and unobstructed view of the sky so I could obtain a signal. After 16 minutes the Garmin had acquired a signal and was up and running. At first I had to zoom into my city and when I noticed that a lot of street names were missing I decided to restart the unit and see if it would see the street next to my house. After turning it back on I noticed that now their were no streets displayed. I went into the settings and ensured that everything was okay because my Garmin didn't even show the surrounding streets.

After regaining my composure I placed it in the cradle and took a drive towards the freeway and noticed that only the freeway numbers were showing up. I turned around and proceeded home to see if it was the old map that was causing a problem.

I returned home and obtained a free 2010 map update at the Garmin website. After 2 hours the new map was uploaded to my 265WT and after it restarted and the map came into view it was the same thing all over again. No STREET NAMES again. I am sure that my streets should be there so I drove to the city next to me and the same thing happened, no street names.

I also toyed with the QWERTY keyboard (WHICH IS TOO SMALL) and was typing in the wrong characters. WOW, I am so frustrated with this thing. The signal strength was also an issue and even in the perfect condition with a clear view of the sky this thing was only on 3 bars.

I had total faith when I read the reviews and now I am going to bring it back to the store for a MAGELLAN 1475T GPS.

I don't know what happened to this Garmin GPS unit but I can tell you I won't recommend it to anyone due to lack of reliability and horrible user interface.

****UPDATE****

I just got my Magellan 1475T and this acquired a strong signal in less than 15 seconds and was up and running in the cradle in less than a minute. I love the QWERTY keyboard as well as the predictive text that helps with the spelling of a city or state. It also has a killer database for AAA hotels, restaurants, and other great POI's. Overall the Magellan 1475T blows away Garmin hands down.

 "265wt" 2009-10-25

this product is very easy to use. when you are in a rural area the map is not accurate, but we did not purchase it with that in mind.

for a mid price unit, i think it is great.

 "Good but not great" 2009-10-23
By David A. Gantz
Mechanically the 265WT is a respectable unit, with an excellent screen and sound. Traffic info is reasonably accurate and the map despite a few errors generally provides correct data. My biggest disappointment is the apparent lack of any feature that allows one to set waypoints or otherwise direct the GPS to follow a particular route, as for a daily commute. Even if you tell it to select the quickest route the software frequently does not do so. This is particularly annoying when the preferred route is a longer one that utilizes freeways rather than city streets.
