i have had many gps units and many stolen from me so i did not wanna spend a-lot of money on one. garmin has always been reliable and i love the units that have the speed limit in them like this one. i can get daily use of this when i don't need directions. i can look up and see on screen the posted speed limit in case i don't know it but u should never rely on it , also it is capable of downloading for $25 for a one year service all the speed cameras and red lights and it will notify you ahead of time that you are approaching a red light intersection . also what's nice is the eco route that u can select for driving directions and it will calculate the most economical way and save you gas. so a-lot of cool stuff for a little unit and the price i would recommend and the battery is great on a full charge so if u have one lighter socket and want a radar instead u can run this on the built in battery, a 2 thumbs up unit

So far so good....
Have not used it a lot since I received it. But so far, it has functioned as I have expected. There have been no problems with it. I have not tried the map updating feature through the internet yet.
It's been easy to use - very intuitive. Took a little time to acquire the satellite initally but has been no problem since.
I use it mostly with the DC adaptor in the car so I cannot comment on the battery life.

I've been driving for a LONG time. When on the road or visiting new or unknown places it was typically just me and a roadmap or handwritten directions. GPS is, more than anything else, a safety sensation! And, following the advice of a good friend, I purchased the Garmin nuvi. Love it!

This is the third GPS I have owned. The first was the 330 Street pilot and really liked it. I later bought a magellen 1420 which is ok but not very user friendly. So I went back to Garmin. This one does every thing I could ask for in a GPS at this price range. No complaints what so ever.

This is the first GPS that I have purchased. The reason I choose the 255W was because all I wanted was a straight GPS unit. We took it on a recent trip to Canada and we were very pleased with how it performed. The one thing I wish it could do is have a editable route itinerary, also you can not upload routes from Mapquest with this model. The recalculate time is excellent, so is the satellite signal connection. Overall we are very pleased with the 255W.
