The text-to-speech feature of the nüvi 260W means that device automatically calls out street names (saying "turn right on Main Street" instead of "turn right in 200 feet."). This feature lets drivers keep their eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways.

The 4.3-inch backlit widescreen touchscreen on the nüvi 260W gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.

The nüvi 260W is built with a high-sensitivity GPS receiver for extreme accuracy, as well as an SD card slot for storing your media and additional navigation tools, and a USB interface for loading data. All this is wrapped up in a package that measures 4.8 x 2.9 x 0.8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs just 6.6 ounces. It also comes with Garmin Lock, an anti-theft feature, and configurable vehicle icons that let you select car-shaped graphics to show your location on the map.
This device is compatible with optional content plug-ins available via SD card, such as the Garmin Travel Guides and Garmin SaversGuide provide detailed data for attractions and information on nearby merchants offering discounts, so you can customize nüvi for your travel needs.
Garmin has also added the ability for customers to add custom points of interest (POI’s) from third parties such as school zones and safety cameras.

I chose to purchase this unit after researching it on the web. The positive reviews and price were big influencing factors. So far, my husband (who is electronically & directionally challenged) used the Garmin 260 to arrive successfully at two locations out of state. We are most pleased with the ease of use, as well as the clarity of sound & display. No problems with connecting with satellite as yet, as other reviewer have noted. Very pleased with purchase!

I am very disappointed with this item. The information it gives for points of interest ie. restaurants and shops has been incorrect 98% of the time. We were on a recent weekend trip and not one of the restaurants out of 4 were where were we were directed. We spent over an hour driving around because we were going by the directions given by the Garmin. I had borrowed one from a friend a couple of months before I bought this one and it showed the "speed limit" on the roads, which this one does not. Just another reason I am thinking of sending it back. My son-in-law has another brand and it has been much more reliable. I would not recommend this item.

I'm convinced. I travel all over southern New England to small fairs and community non-profit events. No more wrong turns, mis-steps or backtracking. For example, I was at an event in the middle of Hartford...Garmin got me there in the middle of rush hour traffic (from Rhode Island). After the event, I purposefully missed the turnoff - and Garmin recalculated...and immediately put me on a shorter route to the interstate. While I am not geographically challenged I must confess to 'issues' finding my way to new places. No more! I am totally convinced this purchase was necssary.

I ordered this after reading most of the reviews. I love it. It came out of the box ready to go. I looked for a new GPS that was pretty basic but had turn by turn voice directions. This is everything I hoped it would be.
