Maps in our Magellan Roadmate 1412 were 2 1/2 years old. After numerous phone calls and e-mails, Magellan finally agreed to provide new maps, but we had to pay $10 shipping. Amazon, shame on you for selling an outdated product.

I purchased this gps over a year ago for double the price through amazon and have really liked the quality and ease of use...the sound quality, points of interest, alternate routes, etc., are all great. the only complaints ive got is that it takes a bit too long at times for the gps to pick up a signal on my location and the gps doesnt come with a home charger, only car charger...ive been steered the wrong way once but overall, this gps has gotten me out of a lot of jams. i just purchased another magellan 1412 as a gift for someone else through amazon. the current price is excellent. and amazon delivered in less than 2 days. amazing shipping.

Went to visit an ill friend in another state. This is my first GPS and I found thier house very quickly and never been there before. Worked great on trip to New Mexico. Only a few glitches like a time or two said to make a legal U-turn. My favorite feature seemed to be the chime before each turn. Very useful when in the city and when possible turnoffs are close together.

The Roadmate 1412 is an "entry level" GPS that is a good buy at $99. I like the spoken street names and 4.3" screen size. Options on the main display do not include actual speed or distance to the destination, nor does it give an overview of the route. There is a "sub-screen" that gives additional information about speed, location, etc., but that requires you to take your eyes off the road to "tap" into it. It has a "simulator" and "2D" mode which we somehow got "locked" in which showed that we were about 2 to 4 miles away from our actual route, and we had some difficulty in restoring it to the actual route. Overall, however, it still is a good buy and very useful for navigation in our car.

I purchased this device about a month ago specifically because I was going to be making a few out of state car trips alone and did not want to have to try and decipher written directions while trying to navigate unfamiliar roadways. I did my research, read reviews and spoke with people that already had GPS devices. My sister has been
using a Magellan for about 3 years and was very happy with it, so that combined with the great price was an incentive to buy this unit. I recently used it on an over 300 mile trip out of state and it got me to each destination and back home with no problems. It was like having a friend reading me directions and prompting me along the way about when to turn or exit. The wide screen is great and easy to see and it was extremely easy to use right out of the box. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend it.
