I had a Garmin 305 for 3 years. It malfunctioned, had it repaired which cost me $90.00, was sent a refurbished device that lasted only one year. So, I decided I was done with Garmin and saw good review with the Polar RS300X G1. I am a little disappointed. There is no Stop Button on the front so it makes a little hard to stop the watch at the traffic light or other places, especially with gloves. The display choices are limited and not customizable like with the Garmin. With my Garmin, I was monitoring my distance, time, heart rate and pace on the same screen which I can't do with the Polar RS300X. But the biggest issue is that I am having a lot of trouble to just start the GPS. Pressing the battery button, I need 20 tries to get the GPS to start. And often, it takes for ever for the GPS to locate the sattelite. I often canot wait that long and start my run before the GPS locate the sattelites. If it ever locates them

I bought this watch about six months ago and have been pretty happy overall with its performance. I also bought the Flowlink along with the watch (and GPS arm band), but I have yet to use it because of the hassle of downloading the Polar software from its website. Even without being to download my workouts, I still take pleasure in using the watch and GPS. It has been invaluable to know what my pace and distance have been, although I'm not sure if the speeds, and therefore distances, are totally accurate. I say this because I have run with my boyfriend who has a Garmin with built in GPS and his watch says that we're going slower than mine does. Regardless, it gives me an idea of where I'm at.



The only issues that I have had with the watch have been one, if you accidentally hit your arm against something while not intending to exercise, you can start the timer. Two, while running in lightly wooded areas (big paths cut between fairly dense trees) the watch will lose satellite connection and will beep at you until it finds them again. I have found that turning the GPS off and then back on again seems to work. Of course, you have to stop and fumble around with it, but that's what it is. Issue three is the fact that the chest belt transmitter sometimes loses the ability to "talk" to the watch while working out. I have found that before each workout, one really needs to wipe down the chest strap (warm water) before starting. Like the instructions say, the strap needs to be moistened before working out anyhow, but a good wipedown is essential to have uninterrupted transmission for the duration of your workout.

I had the RS 200 for years and when the time came to replace it I decided to go with the next model the RS 300. I don't understand why take away features from a watch??? Why make me feel used because I have to get a stupid flowlink?!?!?! However to be fare the GPS works beautifully and I like how the wearlink transmitter and band disconnect and you can easily rinse it after use.



Oh yeah one last thing...seriously for a product sold in the USA the date format needs to be formatted as mmddyyyy by default instead of ddmmyyyyy.



Overall even though Polar can do better after years of releasing the RS200 but what the hell overall it does what you need and it's cheaper than other watches that provide GPS and oh yeah don't throw away your old footpod it still works with this one!!!!

The GPS pod works on and off and eats batteries. I have found the fastest way for it to aquire satellite lock is to take the battery out at the end of each run. If you simply turn the device off it doesn't recieve the GPS signal the next time you need it. As for the HRM and watch it is what you would expect from Polar but the start/stop button is cheap and I can see that failing first. The averages for speed vary greatly also but for the quick check during a long run it works fine and coupled with the HRM it will keep you honest

I consider myself a beginner when it comes to running. After looking around for several options, I decided to get the Polar RS300X G1 because of its multisport capabilities. I could easily run or ride my bike with it, and I would be able to measure distance and pace with the same device, without having to install/uninstall things to my bike every time I wanted to change excersices. After considering the Garmin 305 I decided to go for the Polar because of the extremely big and uncomfortable size of the Garmin. Everything looked nice in the website, but the story changed after only a few weeks I've owned the training computer.

1) The watch itself is incapable of transmitting data to the Polar site (or any other running website) which makes it a little boring for you as a user to log in and "manually" enter your data every time you complete an excersise. I was very sad to know that in order to do this automatically I have to separately purchase an extra device (Polar Flowlink @ $55.00).

2) I have been experiencing some problems with the accuracy of the distance. Since I just got my watch a few weeks ago, I entered in several forums to see if any other user was experiencing what I was going through, and to my unpleaseant surprise, yes... they were. Basically, the battery life of the G1 GPS Sensor is so short that you can only use it for up to 8 hours. More than that and you will start getting incorrect data from your runs. What is the purpose of a GPS sensor if you can get accurate data from it? Now I will have to constantly purchase batteries just to keep my distances correct.



Very sad that Polar hasn't come with better solutions for this issues. I saw several users unhappy about this same thing in their own web site.

I normally keep gadgets and gear to a minimum when I run but this has been a must have tool. When training long distance, such as for a marathon, I tend to stick to the same seen-before paths since the distance is known. This tool frees me to explore new paths as it keeps fairly accurate distance for maintaining training mileage. It's great to be able to display not only average pace but also real time pace and to be able to upload and map out the run on Garmin with all the stats. The stand out features of this particular model is the large easy-to-read display and the great battery performance. As long as I turn it off inbetween runs I can usually go for a week or two on a charge.

A great product from Garmin! I use it for running and cycling (with cadence/speed sensor). It doesn't fail me at all! I particularly like the ANT+ agent which able to transfer data easily to my computer and garmin connect!



I wish it could also function as normal watch so I don't have to wear another watch.... anyway, it's still the best sport computer that I ever use!

As a rugged sports/gps watch, Garmin missed the mark. The screen is made of glass! If you drop it, the screen will crack. The first time this happened (during my first week with the watch), the watch fell out of my hand on to the pavement and the glass shattered. There was no force behind the fall other than me losing my grip on stuff I was carrying. Drop height was maybe 2.5 feet. Garmin repaired the watch after charging me almost $100 plus a $50 expedite fee because I wanted it for a key event.



After months of carefully guarding my Garmin, the watch fell out of my workout bag on to the bathroom tile floor. Screen shattered again so I have to shell out another $100 plus shipping if I want to continue using this expensive piece of equipment.



Garmin needs to change the material used for the face of the 310 XT to a material that will not crack when the device is dropped from a few feet. It is a good looking device that functions well but it is too fragile for all but the most careful and vigilant of users. I would rather have a scratched plastic screen that will take a normal wear-and-tear fall than worry about cracked glass and expensive replacement.



Of the three other 310 XT owners in my running/triathlon group, all three had cracked screens and expensive repairs within the first month of ownership. If you are considering the purchase of this watch be forewarned, it is not a question of if you will experience a cracked screen, it is a matter of when.

This watch is supposedly designed for multi-sport use, and is marketed by Garmin as being "rugged". So I was very surprised, and disappointed when the faceplate cracked just from dropping a couple feet onto the floor. A search found many other people who have had this happen to them too. Garmin is saying it is damage caused by owner and not covered under warranty. It seems to be a bad design flaw that the face of the watch has no protection. Runners and Triathletes like myself will spread the word and steer people away from this product unless Garmin starts to stand by their "rugged" watch and fixes the design.

First of all I need to make clear that I will use this device for running (90% of the time) and biking. No swimming. I've read many posts on how poorly it performs under water and I am not surprised.



I've had the 310XT for a month now, after my 305 finally died because of rusty contacts inside (there went the water resistant claim).

I am hoping that this one will really be water resistant and be able to handle the sweat and occasional rain. And I had a 201 before that. All in all I've had a Garmin running watch for about five years and I have seen the progression of this technology and how much it has improved, and I LOVE IT.



I like the design and color combinations in the 310XT, the wrist band is also nicer (not that I ever had any trouble with the 305's wrist band).



The 310XT catches satellites faster, and it seems to be able to cling on to low GPS signals better than the 305. Really nice in order to give you very accurate reads on your workout parameters (distance, pace/speed, etc.) Part of my runs are in narrow streets lined by high rises, and mapped runs look really fine.

This is the main reason for any owner of a watch like this, so it better deliver, and it does.



I like the refreshed display interface which seems to have even more options than before, very customizable. The main numbers are still big and clear, even for someone like me that needs glasses to read the finer print (I should note that I still navigate the watch by memory because I can't read the descriptions and prompts).



The vibrate alert is new, nice addition, which you can set according to distance, time, laps, etc., also highly customizable.

Training partner is still there if you need an extra kick to reach a desired pace, same as with the 305.



Another new feature that I noticed is that it also self-adjusts the time according to where you are. I don't know how it does this but I recently traveled from the US to Argentina and the correct time was set after I turned it on down south. Neat.



What I don't like is the new wireless interface, why did Garmin have to move away from the 100% reliable hardwired connection? Garmin's ANT Agent installed correctly on my Vista PC, and eventually I can get the workouts out of the 310XT, but I have to try 2 or 3 different USB ports every time, and when all else fails, I have to reboot the PC and start over. The cable in the 305 worked everytime, I had the base on my desk to pop-in the old 305 after each workout.



As for the HR monitor, not much to add about its functionality, it paired fine the first time and it works same as the old one. The design looks a bit sleeker, but there was nothing wrong with the old HR monitor. As a matter of fact, the design of the old strap made it very easy to change the elastic band (which in time stretches, unavoidable) without haveing to deal with the electrodes.



All in all a great GPS watch for runners and bikers. Not sure if you are a swimmer, read other posts for that.

I purchased this product for my husband. I was a little hesitant at first because he is far sighted and I wasn't sure if he would be able to see the numbers on the display. To my surprise you can adjust the brightness and tweak the settings and he can see them just fine. He said it is absolutely helpful in showing him the distance to the pin for him to choose the right club without second guessing. He carries it with him all the time when we play, no matter which course we are playing. I would definitely recommend this product!

I bought a Golf Buddy Tour and used it for three days. The first day the distances seemed to be inaccurate. The second day I measured from known spots on the course and got reading from 25 yards too high to 20 yards too low. I then called Golf Buddy and through the internet we "updated" the software and the targets the Golf Buddy used. I then used the Golf Buddy for the third day. The errors on each hole were different but were still averageing about 10 to 15 yards off (either high or low) and the worst error was 25 yards. I think the targets that Golf Buddy uses are wrong. The unit is simply not usable and I sent it back. Fortunatly Amazon is giving me my money back.

I gave one to my wife for Christmas - she had been _very_ good that year - and we took it along down to Florida. It knew the smaller of two courses at a golf community, and also knows our executive course locally in Maryland. It had no problem finding the course information, and the only confusion came when two tee boxes were right next to each other. Moving a few feet closer to the proper tee box solved that; it gave us yardages to all sorts of hazards; all in all, it did exactly what it said it would, with no muss or fuss.



The only bad mark goes not against the unit, but the web site; perhaps it was overwhelmed on Christmas morning, but the registration process would not complete. We'll try again and see how it goes then...



Terrific unit, glad I bought it! (And so is the missus...)

The unit generally functions as advertised on properly identified courses. My home course is mislabeled in the database and reflects the mapping from an entirely different course. My two attempts over a six month period to resolve this problem have resulted in "we're working on it" responses. The unit sits at home unless I'm headed out of town to play. There are better choices out there.

At a price of $327 plus the $100 off coupon, how could you not buy it, so I did. My advice now... save your money unless you really don't need $225.



A few glitches getting it up, connected, and synched with the web site, but not too bad. Downloaded my 2 home courses and I was impressed with the flyover feature in pro mode. Took it to the course the next day, turned it on and got a messgae "NO Courses Found", so I was now out of luck for the day. Where the course downloads went, I don't know and it was especially surpising since you can't delete a course directly from the upro unit.



After redownloading the courses, it took it out the next day. The course downloads were there but the screen kept going blank as it went into power saver mode. The screen will go blank after 25, 45 or 90 seconds depending on how you set it. You can override this and leave the screen on permanently, but it is not recommended and I doubt you could play a full round before the battery goes dead.



What's the problem with the power saver mode. Well, you need to physically pick up the unit and push a button for it come back on. Therefore you can't leave the unit on in the cart and just glance at the yardage. Picking it 40+ times a round is a first class pain. Once you do pick it and bring it back to life it needs a few seconds to update the yardage (as the yardage does not get updated when in power saver mode). If you're like me and use it for the yardage on my approach shot to the green, you won't use the upro again until you've hit your next drive and are hitting your second shot on the next hole. After you wake up the upro it takes a few seconds for it to realize you've changed holes (since it doesn't update in power saver mode). You need to manually tell it you changed holes and then wait to it to change holes and then update the yardage.



Bottom line...2 or 3 times a round I'm in a location where I stuggle with yardage and the upro is really helpful. But in general, it's much easier to look for yardage markers than to be pushing buttons on this thing for 4 hours. It's an expensive toy that doesn't have the battery life necessary to make it really useful.

Does what It's supposed to do, I am a "new" golfer, so every course is new to me The Flyovers are help full to me to, so that when I step up to tee off at least I know where I need to hit the ball, so, I'll have a good position for my second shot. Some times however in some of the flyovers it's difficult to distinguish between fairway and waterhazard they look the same color. On bright days I need to shade the screen to see flyovers, No problem with battery life. or downloading courses, Overall very helpful to me as am very poor at estimating distances, and it helps me choose the right club. Now if it could only help me find my lost balls it would be the perfect tool.

This item is advertised as Mac compatible, but it was not compatible with my Leopard 10.5.8 Operating System. After downloading files a Customer Service Representative sent, I was able to initialize the uPro and download 4 courses after paying $120 for 50 courses. I took the device out to play the next day, but turned it off after a couple of holes because it didn't offer any information that I didn't already have on the Cart's GPS Screen. As I was leaving the course, I tried to turn it back on to show a friend. It was dead. So, I immediately returned it to Amazon. However, uPro is refusing to refund the 4 courses that I downloaded, so I am in a Credit Card Dispute with them, which I will easily win since the information was never used and I returned the device. Advice - don't buy this piece of junk.
